HC Deb 26 April 1996 vol 276 cc292-3W
Mr. George Howarth

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department which wings in HMP Walton are currently closed; which wings at this establishment are planned to be closed in the near future; what are the reasons for each of the closures; and if, once the areas closed and planned to be closed have re-opened, there will be no slopping out. Miss Widdecombe

[holding answer 23 April 1996]: Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Richard Tilt to Mr. George Howarth, dated 26 April 1996: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the closure of wings at Liverpool prison. Liverpool's H Wing closed on Saturday 23 March 1996 and is awaiting major refurbishment, including the provision of integral sanitation. All other wings at Liverpool have been refurbished and include such sanitation. There is no slopping out at Liverpool or at any other establishment in England and Wales.
