HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 c467W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make it his policy to ban the sale of cat and dog food until it is produced from ingredients free of mammalian meat and bonemeal. [23348]

Mrs. Browning

SEAC recommended that the use of mammalian meat and bone meal should be prohibited in feed for farm animals. The rationale for this is that it should not be used in any circumstances where there might be a risk of the material being fed to or ingested by ruminants. MBM is not considered a risk to dogs and cats.
