HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 c467W
Mr. David Nicholson

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representations were received by his Department in each year since 1976 regarding the issuing of a requirement that animal feed manufacturers should publish a precise analysis of their products; and what response was made by his Department. [24464]

Mrs. Browning

I am unable to provide the precise information requested. However, farmers' organisations did seek full information concerning compound feeds. EC directives introduced quantitative declarations for nutritional constituents and, in 1990, ingredient listing. This provision, requiring either a full list or categories of ingredients, was supported by the Government.

Mr. Marlow

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what was the tonnage of cattle feed exported from the United Kingdom to each EU member country in each of the last 15 years. [23318]

Mrs. Browning

[holding answer 1 April 1996]: Exports intended primarily for cattle feed are not separately identifiable.

Information covering the percentage composition of raw materials in main compound feed rations used in Great Britain is published in MAFF bi-annual press notice entitled "Results of the survey into the composition of main compound feed rations as used in Great Britain". Information on trade in raw materials can be found in the CSO Business Monitor MA 20, which is published annually.

Copies of the press notices and the business monitor can be found in the Library of the House.
