HC Deb 16 April 1996 vol 275 c407W
Mr. Clapham

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will discuss with the Coal Authority, as early as possible, arrangements to establish a register of all companies involved in mining operations in the United Kingdom and to ensure the deposit of a copy of each company's current employers liability insurance certificate. [25003]

Mr. Page

In accordance with the provisions of section 35 of the Coal Industry Act 1994, a register of licences granted for the carrying out of coal mining operations has been established by the Coal Authority. The enforcement of legislative requirements on employers' liability insurance is a matter for the Health and Safety Executive.

Ms Ruddock

To ask the President of the Board of Trade if he will list the measures which the Coal Authority(a) has taken to date and (b) proposes to take to deal with pollution from abandoned mines. [24800]

Mr. Page

This is a matter for the Coal Authority. I have asked the chairman to write to the hon. Member.
