HC Deb 31 October 1995 vol 265 c185W
Mr. Redmond

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage if she will list by location(a) the world war II pill-boxes that will be saved under her defence of Britain project and (b) those that are deemed not worth saving; and if she will make a statement. [39058]

Mr. Sproat

The primary aim of the defence of Britain project, which is being part funded by my Department, is to compile a database of 20th century military defences in the United Kingdom. Completion of the database will take several years and, when completed, will be used as a planning and research tool. English Heritage is represented on the project management panel and is also carrying out a thematic survey of defence structures in tandem with the defence of Britain project. Any structures considered to be of national architectural or historic importance will be recommended for listing when English Heritage's survey is complete.
