To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security what is the cost to the national insurance fund of allowances given in respect of private pension insurance for each of the last five years. [39879]

Mr. Heald

The treasury grant to the national insurance fund was £7,589 million in 1993–94 and £6,280 million in 1994–95. There was no such payment into the national insurance fund for the preceding three years.
