HC Deb 27 October 1995 vol 264 c873W
Mr. Parry

To ask the President of the Board of Trade how much was paid in 1989 to reduce the dock labour force nationally; and if he will make a statement. [38535]

Mr. Norris

[holding answer 24 October 1995]: I have been asked to reply.

Figures for payment made under employment protection legislation in 1989 are not readily available. Payments by Government and port employers in respect of redundancies of registered dock workers under the Dock Work (Compensation Payments Scheme) Regulations 1989 in the financial year 1989–90 totalled £150,077,500 nationally.
