HC Deb 27 October 1995 vol 264 cc873-4W
Mr. David Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if the proposed reduced departure wake vortex separation trials at Heathrow airport have been the subject of a full safety audit by the Safety Regulation Group's air traffic services standards department; and if he will make a statement. [39278]

Mr. Norris

[holding answer 24 October 1995]: The proposed trial is currently in the final stages of the Safety Regulation Group's approval process.

The trial procedures have been the subject of a full audit by the air traffic services standards and the flight operations departments of SRG. A full safety assessment has been carried out by the CAA's national air traffic services.

Mr. Marshall

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport if the reduced final approach separation trial conducted at Heathrow airport earlier this year had been the subject of a full safety audit by the Civil Aviation Authority Safety Regulation Group's air traffic services standards department; if all the pilots involved in the trial were aware of their participation; and what representations he has received from the airlines involved in respect of the trial. [39274]

Mr. Norris

[holding answer 24 October 1995]: The procedures associated with this initial trial were evaluated by the air traffic services standards department of the Civil Aviation Authority's Safety Regulation Group.

All the pilots involved were fully aware of their participation.

My Department has received no representations from the airlines involved.
