To ask the Secretary of State for Health what representations he has received alleging difficulty in recruiting and retaining general practitioners to(a) general practices and (b) hospitals; and if he will make a statement. [3141]

Mr. Malone

We have received representations through informal discussions with the profession and the national health service on pockets of difficulty within general practice and on particular difficulties in filling some hospital specialty posts. We are addressing these through improved work force planning.
