To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on investment levels in the United Kingdom. [718]

OECD figures show that United Kingdom investment has grown significantly faster than the EC average rate since 1980, having grown at less than the EC average rate in the 1960s and 1970s.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what were the investment rates in(a) the United Kingdom and (b) Japan (i) 1979 and (ii) the last year for which figures are available. [1628]
