To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what estimate he has made of the average age of bus fleets operated by private bus companies in(a)0 Inverclyde, (b) Strathclyde regional area and (c) Scotland as a whole. [41976]

[holding answer 7 November 1995]: The average age of public transport vehicles in Scotland is given in the Scottish Office publication "Scottish Transport Statistics" (1992–93) as 8.4 years (1992 figure). Information on a local/regional basis is not readily available.
