HC Deb 07 November 1995 vol 265 c746W
Mr. Betts

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list by type of project(a) how many schemes have been approved to date under the public finance initiative, (b) what is the value of those schemes and (c) what public sector contribution will be required both initially and as revenue support during the lifetime of the schemes. [41739]

Sir Paul Beresford

The Department of the Environment and its sponsored bodies attracted around £4 billion in private investment in support of its programmes in 1994–95 and expects to increase that figure in 1995–96. This will assist the delivery of a very large number of projects, most notably ones relating to housing, inner cities and regeneration. Secondary legislation to encourage and facilitate private finance initiative schemes in the local authority sector came into effect from 1 April 1995 and the Government aim to implement further measures by 1 April 1996. It is not practicable for the Department to collect detailed information on each project being advanced under private financing arrangements.
