§ Mr. NorrisThe Department has no evidence of accidents occurring as a result of mobile phones in cars interfering with vehicle electronic systems.
A forthcoming EC directive will require new types of vehicle to have a minimum level of resistance to electromagnetic interference. In addition, the Department 753W is discussing with the Radiocommunications Agency, an executive agency of the Department of Trade and Industry, how best to ensure that devices such as in-car phones do not produce excessive interference which might affect vehicle electronic systems.
