HC Deb 06 November 1995 vol 265 c596W
Mr. Ainger

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the statement of the General-Secretary of the United Nations in respect of the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Gorazde. [41285]

Mr. Soames

[holding answer 3 November 1995]: The UN Secretary-General's statement of 18 August reflected the British Government's decision not to replace the Royal Welch Fusiliers in Gorazde at the end of their tour. British troops has served in the town for 18 months. The London conference in July, and subsequent air action by NATO, made abundantly clear the international community's resolve to deter attacks on Gorazde and other safe areas.
