HC Deb 03 November 1995 vol 265 cc515-6W
Mr. Allen

To ask the Secretary of State for Transport (1) what proposals he has to devolve spending decisions on transport to(a) local authorities and (b) regions; [41008]

(2) what transport decisions are taken at regional level rather than at central or local government levels. [40982]

Mr. Norris

We take full account of advice from the Government offices for the regions on transport decisions relevant to them, for example on the allocation of transport resources for capital investment by local authorities. There are no plans further to devolve decisions to the regional offices.

Local authorities have a wide range of transport powers and responsibilities. They are responsible for taking their own decisions on transport spending priorities within the total resources available to them.
