Gross domestic product is a measure of output while much transport expenditure is intermediate. Total transport expenditure is thus not calculated as a component of GDP. However, a separate exercise has estimated total expenditure on transport including intermediate expenditure. The estimated expenditures expressed as a percentage of GDP, at market prices, for 1990 to 1994, are as follows:
- 1990: 18 Per cent.
- 1991: 17 Per cent.
- 1992: 18 Per cent.
- 1993: 18 Per cent.
- 1994: 17 Per cent.
