§ Sir Hector MonroThe Government favour waste management methods such as recycling and incineration with energy recovery which are higher in the waste management hierarchy than landfill. By requiring local authorities to prepare and update waste disposal plans and waste recycling plans the Government ensures they keep their waste management options under review. Together with the landfill tax which we intend to introduce, this will encourage authorities to respond to our target for recycling household waste.
