HC Deb 24 May 1995 vol 260 cc640-1W
Mr. Donohoe

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what conditions the Scottish Office would require to be fulfilled before removing the political restriction of local government employees. [25395]

Mr. Kynoch

[holding answer 23 May 1995]Following the report of the Widdicombe committee, it was agreed that there were certain key posts in local government where it was particularly important that the postholder should be seen to be politically impartial. This remains just as valid today, and we therefore have no intention of abolishing the rules on politically restricted posts.
