HC Deb 24 May 1995 vol 260 c626W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when the board of inquiry took place into the death of Corporal Neil Hughes of the Duke of Wellington Regiment; what was the result of the board of inquiry; what conclusions have been reached as to the responsibility for the death of Corporal Hughes; and if compensation has been made to the widow of Corporal Hughes. [25785]

Mr. Soames

A board of inquiry was not held, as all the facts relating to this matter were established during the coroner's inquest and subsequent civil police inquiries. The case was referred to the Crown Prosecution Service, which decided to take no further action. The compensation claim from the widow of Corporal Hughes has been accepted and an interim payment agreed.
