HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 c576W
Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will list the criteria for owning a registered nursing home in Lanarkshire; and if he will make a statement. [25487]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 22 May 1995]: The requirements for the registration of nursing homes are set out in the Nursing Homes Registration (Scotland) Act 1938 as amended. Health boards, as registering authorities, make copies of relevant guidance available to those seeking registration. A copy of the Lanarkshire health board guidance notes on "Registration and Inspection of Nursing Homes" has been placed in the Library.

Mr. Hood

To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will initiate an independent inquiry into the care for the elderly in the Lanarkshire health board area. [25485]

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

[holding answer 22 May 1995]: My right hon. Friend has no plans to initiate an independent inquiry into the care for the elderly in the Lanarkshire health board area.
