HC Deb 23 May 1995 vol 260 c551W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what representations he has received concerning school funding in 1995–96 from(a) teachers, (b) governors and (c) parents; and if he will make a statement. [24853]

Mr. Richards

My right hon. Friend and I have received many representations concerning school funding in 1995–96 from many parties. The funding of schools is a local government responsibility. We have made it clear that in our view there is sufficient scope for local authorities in Wales to fund schools appropriately from within the overall settlement they have received. By longstanding arrangement, it is for local authorities in Wales to decide their priorities for spending.
