HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 cc407-8W
Mr. Hendry

To ask the Secretary of State for Health which local authorities do not directly manage(a) residential homes for the elderly, (b) residential homes for the mentally ill, (c) residential homes for the physically disabled, (d) residential homes for people with learning disabilities and (e) residential homes for expectant mothers. [24893]

Mr. Bowis

Homes are categorised on the basis of their primary function. Homes classified in one client group may also contain residents from other client groups. The absence of a directly managed home does not therefore mean that the authority provides no places for that client group within its own homes.

The information available at 31 March 1994 shows:

Local authorities not directly managing residential homes for the elderly are: Tameside, Knowsley, City of London, Somerset.

Local authorities not directly managing residential homes for the mentally ill are: Durham, North Tyneside, Barnsley, Bolton, Bury, Manchester, Knowsiey, Warwickshire, Dudley, Sandwell, Buckinghamshire, Essex, Oxfordshire, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, City of London, Barking, Barnet, Bexley, Bromley, Harrow, Havering, Kingston Upon Thames, Merton, Newham, Waltham Forest, Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, Cornwall, Devon, Gloucestershire, Isles of Scilly.

Local authorities not directly managing residential homes for the physically disabled are: Newcastle Upon Tyne, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Sunderland, Humberside, North Yorkshire, Barnsley, Rotherham, Calderdale, Wakefield, Bolton, Bury, Oldham, Rochdale, Stockport, Trafford, Knowsiey, Sefton, Shropshire, Warwickshire, Sandwell, Solihull, Wolverhampton, Derbyshire, Lincolnshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Suffolk, Greenwich, Hackney, Kensington, Lambeth, Lewisham, Wandsworth, Westminster, City of London, Barnet, Bexley, Brent, Bromley, Enfield, Haringey, Harrow, Hillingdon, Kingston Upon Thames, Merton, Newham, Redbridge, Richmond Upon Thames, Sutton, Waltham Forest, Dorset, Isle of Wight, Kent, Wiltshire, Isles of Stilly.

Local authorities not directly managing residential homes for people with learning disabilities are: Manchester, Warwickshire, City of London, Bexley, Redbridge, Isles of Scilly.

Centrally available information does not separately identify residential homes for expectant mothers.
