HC Deb 22 May 1995 vol 260 c416W
Mr. Frank Cook

To ask the Secretary of State for Education how many chief education officers are currently employed in Cleveland; and how many she expects will be employed when the reorganisation of local government in that county has taken place. [25216]

Mr. Robin Squire

Under section 88 of the Education Act 1944 each local education authority has to have a chief education officer. Cleveland has one. Following reorganisation, each of the four new LEAs in the Cleveland area will have one.
