§ Lord James Douglas-HamiltonThe minimum qualifications for appointment to the judiciary in Scotland are set down in a number of statutes, most particularly the Act of Union 1707, the Sheriff Courts (Scotland) Act 1971, the Law Reform (Miscellaneous Provisions) (Scotland) Act 1990, and the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990.
