To ask the Parliamentary Secretary, Lord Chancellor's Department what plans he has to review court practices and procedures with a view of the modernisation of the judicial system. [22515]

There is a continuing programme to review court practices and procedures. The Royal Commission on criminal justice reported in July 1993 and many of its recommendations are being taken forward. In addition, Lord Justice Woolf is undertaking a comprehensive review of the civil justice system.
