To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement as to the procedures that are now followed at Wandsworth prison in respect of inmates suspected of being a possible suicide risk. [22375]

Responsibility for this matter has been delegated to the Director General of the Prison Service, who has been asked to arrange for a reply to be given.

Letter from Derek Lewis to Mr. Tom Cox, dated 4 May 1995: The Home Secretary has asked me to reply to your recent Question about the procedures that are now being followed at Wandsworth prison for any inmates suspected of being a possible suicide risk. Mr. Butler, the Director of Personnel, wrote to you on 21 March in my absence, outlining the existing procedures at Wandsworth prison in respect of an inmate regarded as a possible suicide risk. The procedures which are followed at Wandsworth have not altered since Mr. Butler's letter.
