To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) how many police officers have been(a) injured and (b) killed by firearms in (i) the Metropolitan police area and (ii) England and Wales in each of the last 10 years; [21893]

(2) how many working hours were lost by police officers in (a) London and (b) England and Wales arising from injuries by firearms in each of the last 10 years. [21897]

The following table gives the information available to me which relates to the years 1988 to 1993. Information for earlier years is not available. Full information for 1994 is not yet available, but no police officer was killed by a firearm in that year.
