HC Deb 01 May 1995 vol 259 cc16-7W
Mr. Austin Mitchell

To ask the President of the Board of Trade what study he has made of the means by which other nations give preference to their own products and discriminate against those of the United Kingdom; and what lessons he considers can be learnt from other nations' trading practices. [21424]

Mr. Needham

Following the successful conclusion of the GATT round, my Department has carried out consultations with the trade associations representing our leading export sectors to establish which remaining barriers to trade most frustrated their members' efforts. This was the first step in a continuing dialogue with industry. The results of the consultations, and the Government's strategy to deal with priority barriers will be announced shortly.
