HC Deb 30 March 1995 vol 257 c766W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales what is the total number of administrative staff employed in each of the local education authorities in Wales; and if he will make a statement. [16746]

Mr. Richards

Information on the number of people employed by local authorities in Wales is compiled by the Local Government Management Board. Figures for staff employed in administration are not separately available. The estimated number of full-time and part-time non-manual staff employed in the education service, other than lecturers and teachers, in June 1994 was 11,050–8,870 full-time equivalents. This comprises all non-manual staff identified as employed within the education service and includes administrative, secretarial and clerical staff, youth and community workers, nursery and other non-teaching classroom assistants, library staff serving educational establishments, educational psychologists and careers guidance staff. Figures for individual education authorities are not released into the public domain because estimates at this level of disaggregation are not considered sufficiently reliable by the LGMB.
