HC Deb 15 March 1995 vol 256 c640W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made of the implications of article 223 of the treaty of Rome for the development of a common European defence market.

Mr. Freeman

The United Kingdom has been working in the western European armaments group towards the liberalisation of the European defence equipment market. The existence of article 223 of the treaty of Rome does not prevent nations from agreeing to an open defence equipment market.
