To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what is his Department's policy concerning the European Armaments Agency; and if he will make a statement.

My Department is playing a full part in discussions in the western European armaments group on the concept of a European armaments agency. Our support for the establishment of an agency would he subject to its adding value to existing arrangements. Initially, an agency would be concerned with co-operative activities on behalf of member nations; the conditions do not exist for an
