Whether the United States-made Trident missiles that are being installed in United Kingdom submarines will, like all United States nuclear weapons systems, be equipped with coded control devices or permissive action links; and, if so, whether these devices and links will, to their knowledge, be under exclusive British control, and how they will he able to verify this.
§ Lord Henley:We do not comment in detail on the command and control arrangements for our nuclear weapons. As I told the House on 20 February, however, the United Kingdom's nuclear deterrent is fully operationally independent.
