HC Deb 02 March 1995 vol 255 cc662-3W
18. Mr. Hayes

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what recent representations he has had from Opposition parties about current tax policies.

Sir George Young

Since the Budget, the Chancellor has received a very small number of written representations from the hon. Members on the Opposition Front Benches.

23. Mr. Corbyn

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total taxation cost for an average manual worker currently; and what it was in May 1979.

Sir George Young

'The tax paid by any particular individual depends on their income, household type and spending pattern. Real take-home pay is what matters. Real take-home pay for a one-earner couple on average earnings with two children has risen by 40 per cent.—over £80 a week—since 1978–79.

25. Mr. Simon Coombs

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the plans the Government have to extend the 20 per cent. income tax band.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

I refer to the reply I gave my hon. Friend the Member for High Peak (Mr. Hendry) earlier today.
