To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make a statement on the Government's long-term strategy in respect of levels of VAT charged; and what assessment he has made of the need for an intermediate VAT band. [31296]

The Government's taxation policies are announced in successive Budgets.

The Chancellor has said that he has no plans to apply the 8 per cent. reduced rate of VAT to anything other than domestic fuel and power.

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will make it his policy to propose a reduction in the levels of VAT on tourist businesses. [31589]

No. As I have already made clear, the Government have no plans to apply the reduced rate of VAT to anything other than domestic fuel and power.
