The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General from the office, to reply to your recent Question about how many prison inmates serving a sentence of over ten years imprisonment have been granted home leave during the last twelve months.Home leave, as such, has not occurred since 24 April 1995 when the systems of temporary absence were revised. In the 12 months to 24 April 1995 some 680 prisoners serving sentences of over ten years (including life) were granted home leave.
