The Home Secretary has asked me, in the absence of the Director General, to reply to your recent Question about shopping trips by prison officers for prison inmates.No private shopping trips by prison officers were made during the week of 12 June. This is in line with the Home Secretary's announcement last December that the practice of prison officers going shopping at the behest of individual prisoners had stopped.
