HC Deb 30 June 1995 vol 262 c833W
Ms Primarolo

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what taxes are imposed on the use of credit and store cards in(a) any other EU countries, (b) the United States of America and (c) Japan. [31321]

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

Within the EU, only Ireland imposes such a tax—a stamp duty on credit cards at the rate of £15 per annum per card. Neither the United States of America nor Japan imposes such taxes.

Ms Primarolo

To ask the Chancellor of the Exchequer what plans he has to undertake behavioural work to estimate the effects on the use of credit and store cards of a £10 tax on each. [31345]

Mr. Heathcoat-Amory

None.
