To ask the Secretary of State for Transport, pursuant to his answer of 15 June,Official Report, column 618, what were the problems associated with the evacuation during the ferry exercise FEREX 86. [30300]

This is a operational matter for the Coastguard agency.

Letter from C. J. Harris to Mr. Paul Flynn, dated 26 June 1995: The Secretary of State for Transport has asked me to reply to your recent Parliamentary Question.

Problems may arise during any ferry evacuation, however in this exercise no significant SAR coordination problems arose. The exercise was not a simulated rescue but was set up to assess a variety of methods of evacuation in slow time.
