To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many people have been(a) killed and (b) injured in accidents involving police vehicles in each of the last five years. [29514]

The latest available information on casualties in police vehicle accidents in England and Wales is for the period 1989–1993 and is given in the following table. The figures relate to death or serious injury in the course of either police pursuits or responses to emergency calls.
