HC Deb 22 June 1995 vol 262 c394W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department how much home security support he is arranging for householders in the metropolitan area; at what cost to public funds; and if he will make a statement. [28551]

Mr. Maclean

The Home Office has no funds for the direct provision of security support to individual householders, although we do run regular information campaigns on various aspects of crime prevention. I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that his officers actively supports neighbourhood watch schemes and other local crime prevention initiatives; and offer home security advice to householders, including domestic surveys. His successful campaign against burglary—Operation Bumblebee—has also raised public awareness about home security.

Costings for the relevant elements of the Commissioner's work are not available centrally.
