To ask the Secretary of State for Health how many laboratory reports of salmonella in foodstuffs have been received by the Public Health Laboratory Service in England and Wales for 1995; and what was the final figure for 1994. [28615]

In 1994, the Public Health Laboratory Service identified 2076 salmonella strains from foodstuffs. In the first five months of 1995, 451 salmonella strains were identified.
