To ask the Secretary of State for Health what are the mortality and five-year survival rates for women diagnosed as having breast cancer for each year since 1989. [28089]

The mortality rates for England and Wales are shown in the table.

The latest available information for England and Wales indicates that in the mid-1980s the five-year relative survival was 63 per cent.
