To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what key targets have been set for the Queen Victoria school in 1995–96. [29241]

The key targets for the Queen Victoria school in 1995–96 are as followsAcademic Curriculum To achieve at least three standard grade passes at credit and general levels for 90 per cent. of S4 pupils. To achieve at least five standard grades—1 to 3—for 60 per cent. of S4 pupils. To achieve three higher passes at A to C grades for 60 per cent. of S5/S6 leavers. To achieve 90 per cent. successful completion of SCOTVEC modules started on or before 9 January 1996. To continue with the phased implementation of 5 to 14 national programme, in line with SOED recommendations; initially in English language, maths and environmental studies. Included in this will be the corresponding recording, reporting and assessment procedures in these areas. In addition, to trial team teaching of science in P7 using senior and junior school staff. To review and where appropriate update curricular guidance for S4/S5 as detailed by the Scottish Consultative Council on Curriculum January 1990. Pastoral To continue to monitor the effectiveness of the school pastoral policy and organisation document and, specifically, to produce a school policy on anti-bullying by 31 March 1996. To introduce improved career guidance provision.

Parents' Charter To improve communication with parents and their involvement in the school by examining the requirement, in consultation with parents, for a parents' association.

Extra-Curricular Provision To maintain and enrich the extensive extra-curricular activities, physical, cultural, social and academic.

Staffing To continue with teacher appraisal and development by completing an agreed person job description with all teaching staff by 31 March 1996.

Marketing To maintain the improved marketing procedures adopted in 1994–95. To review and improve the prospectus, especially with a view to girls' entry.

Admission of Girls To continue with the planning and work services programme, appropriate to the admission of girls for both sessions 1996–97 and 1997–98.

Management To review and improve joining instructions to the school both primary and secondary. To follow the SOED's guidelines for school development plans—Scotland 19 January 1994—and, having linked in with the central region phase 2 schools, have a school development plan ready for January 1996. To carry out a study of the current accounting systems and reduce the number of accounting procedures necessary.

Finance To maintain standards within the budget allocated. To generate non-public income to the school of 1 per cent. of the school cash budget.

Equal Opportunities To ensure that the School conforms to the Adjutant General's equal opportunities action plan.
