To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment how much each council receives in England in standard spending assessment for national parks; and which councils have national parks in their areas. [28078]

Local authorities' contributions to expenditure on national parks are included within a large group of local authority services known as "all other services", for which the national total standard spending assessment is £7,426.1 million in 1995–96. The SSAs do not distinguish portion which can be attributed to national parks. The portion of the "approved expenditure" of national parks in 1995–96 which is expected to be contributed by local authorities is some £5.5 million.
