HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 c67W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales how many people in(a) Clwyd, (b) Gwynedd and (c) Powys travelled to England for heart surgery in each year since 1990; and if he will make a statement. [25161]

Mr. Richards

The number of completed consultant episodes for residents of Clwyd, Gwynedd and Powys for heart surgery, as reported by hospitals in England to the Mersey clearing house service, are given in the table:

1991–92 1992–95
Clwyd 326 304
Gwynedd 131 193
Powys 47 61

Note:

Reliable information for 1990–91 and 1993–94 is not available. Figures may understate the true position in that no all hospitals supply complete medical details. Figures include all operative procedures on the heart as defined in Chapter K of the OPCS Classification of Surgical Procedures with the exception of Angioplasties (K49, K50, K51 and K63).
