HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 cc76-7W
Mr. Barry Jones

To ask the Secretary of State for Wales if he will make available extra cash for further education colleges in Wales. [26354]

Mr. Richards

Since they became autonomous on 1 April 1993 we have provided substantial additional resources for further education colleges in Wales. The 1995–96 provision is 57 per cent. greater in cash terms than in 1992–93. Funding for the further education sector in the current financial year and planned funding for the next two years is as follows:

£ million
1995–96 1996–97 1997–98
Recurrent 154.612 158.947 162.547
Capital 15.971 19.833 18.733
Less FEFCW running costs (2.558) (2.558) (2.558)
Total available to FE sector 168.025 176.222 178.722

The figures for 1996–97 and 1997–98 are for planning purposes and will be reviewed in the next public expenditure survey.
