HC Deb 06 June 1995 vol 261 c53W
Mr. Jim Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage by what mechanisms the BBC is accountable to Government in relation to the economy and efficiency of its expenditure. [25256]

Mr. Dorrell

Responsibility for ensuring economy and efficiency falls ultimately on the BBC's governors, who are appointed by Her Majesty the Queen on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The BBC is required by its royal charter to lay its annual report and accounts before Parliament.

Mr. Cunningham

To ask the Secretary of State for National Heritage what recent representations he has received relating to reductions in the BBC's output. [25255]

Mr. Dorrell

We regularly receive representations about the changes to the BBC's programmes and services.
