HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 c1497W
Mr. Congdon

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Security how many working days are currently estimated to be lost as a result of skin disease. [35968]

Mr. Heald

The information is not available in the form requested. The only figure which can be provided relates to the number of days of certified incapacity where a claim has been made to sickness and/or invalidity benefit as a result of diseases of the skin and subcutaneous tissue.

In the period 6 April 1992 to 3 April 1993, this was 4,589,000.

Employers are not required to keep information on the nature of incapacity in statutory sick pay cases.

Source: based on a 1 per cent. sample of claims in the period 6 April 1992 to 3 April 1993 and rounded to the nearest thousand.

Note: diagnosis code group 52 from "International Classification of Diseases, 1975" has been used to compile the table.

Figures are for Great Britain.
