HC Deb 19 July 1995 vol 263 c1377W
Dr. David Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what assessment he has made of the National Radiological Protection Board study's analysis of leukaemia and multiple myeloma; and if he will make a statement. [31773]

Mr. Arbuthnot

[holding answer Friday 30 June 1995]: The National Radiological Protection Board analysis indicated no evidence to suggest that leukaemia, multiple myeloma or any other cancer was caused by ionising radiation from the nuclear test programme.

Dr. Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence when his Department decided that a 10-year continuation of the National Radiological Protection Board study was no longer to be conducted. [31772]

Mr. Arbuthnot

[holding answer Friday 30 June 1995]: A follow-up to the original NRPB study has already been conducted and its results were published in December 1993. We have no plans to sponsor any further studies.

Dr. Clark

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence from whom his Department has received requests that a third survey for the National Radiological Protection Board study be conducted; what response he gave; and what plans he has for such a survey. [31771]

Mr. Arbuthnot

[holding answer Friday 30 June 1995]: The National Radiological Protection Board study concluded that there has been no overall excess of death or malignant disease among British nuclear test participants. We therefore have no plans to sponsor any further studies.
