To ask the Secretary of State for Health how much compensation has been paid for loss of office to trust board members in each of the last three years. [35833]

Mr. Malone

In 1993–94, a total of £985,000 was paid as compensation for loss of office to executive members of national health service trust boards. Information relating to earlier years is not available. Information relating to 1994–95 will not be available until later this year.

Chairmen and non-executive members of NHS trusts are not entitled to receive compensation payments for loss of office.
